Recycled Construction Materials
Construction materials are a finite natural resource, but they are 100% recyclable.
In fact, asphalt pavement is the most recycled product in the United States
at over 90 million tons per year!
That’s more than all other recycled goods combined.
NYMaterials Affiliate members are recycling firms based in the metropolitan New York region. The facilities take in materials from constructions projects – which is often a mix of soil, concrete, bricks and asphalt pavement. Then, using sophisticated separation techniques, the materials are segregated, stockpiled and returned to the marketplace
All recycling facilities are strictly regulated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation under the agency’s Part 360 Solid Waste regulations. New York City based recyclers are also regulated by the NYC Department of Sanitation that closely monitors and frequents inspects recycling operations.
Three different products are separately stockpiled on a very small parcel thanks to this moveable gantry
This specialized bucket was fabricated onsite so soil could be separated from larger chucks of recycled concrete before going to a screening plant.
Due to the scarcity of industrial land in the city, many recyclers put enormous volumes of recycled construction materials through plants located on very small properties. That has required the development of specialized equipment and process innovations.
